TEXMED 2010 &TEXTECH MED 

 

 

 

 

In a world that is full of integration, bringing together multi-actor match making event becomes a big challenge. Now this challenge has come true with the organization of parallel textile events as parts of the 11th    Edition of the Euro-Mediterranean Garment Exhibition, TEXMED 2010 held in June 16-18 in Tunisia. Beside the exhibition , two other breakfast workshops were held too. The first, TEXTECH MED, a workshop on technical textile in the Euro-Med area. Second , Spain Workshop , an exploration of the Tunisian – Spanish textile cooperation. All events witnessed the presence of different communities of SMEs, large companies, R&D institutions and business support organizations. More than 360 professional meetings were held in B2B spaces.

            Organized by the Tunisian Export Promotion Center (CEPEX), the National Textile Federation (FENATEX) and the Textile Technical Center (CETTEX), TEXMED 2010 becomes a comprehensive textile platform for discussions, sharing views , networking and partnerships among elites of Euro-Med textile and clothing industry. The event was inaugurated by H.E. Afif Chelbi , Minister of Industry and Technology and H.E. Ridha Ben Mosbah , Minister of Trade and handicrafts. During three days of exhibition , workshops and business meetings , 250 international exhibitors gathered together to displays their latest production on a pace of 10 000 sqm. They presented different stages of the textile production chain ranging from fashion-designing to final products of textiles , clothing and accessories.
Within the framework of boosting investment among textiles companies in the Mediterranean region , participants and stakeholders from Tunisia , Egypt , Syria , Italy , France , -- met together to discuss initiatives for mutual economic cooperation in both traditional textiles and technical textiles. They tried to explore more opportunities for partnerships and integration as a crucial step to face global challenges. Representatives of textile companies and organizations tried to strengthen their existence either through developing more effective traditional textiles or through modifying their plants to produce smart textiles and develop their applications.
Among other activities, different workshops were held to explore points of shared interests . Spain Workshop focused on the development prospects of Tunisian-Spanish trade in textiles and clothing. Technical Textile Workshop shed light on the EuroMed opportunities for technical textiles as a booming sector with a higher value added.            

 

 

 

 

 

 

Agadir Meetings

 

 

 

 

            TexMed 2010 offered participants a precious opportunity to follow up the implementation of Agadir agreement. A meeting headed by H.E. Reda Ben Musbah , Tunisian Minister of Trade and Traditional Industry , was held to discuss the status of textile industries in Egypt , Tunisia , Morocco and Jordan. The meeting witnessed the presence of Eng. Hachmi Kooli , vice president of the Arab Federation of Textile Industry as well as Mr. Farid El Tunisy, head of Agadir Agreement Unit. Among other discussions, problems of direct logistics, trade disputes settlement and auditing of banking procedures were at the top of the discussed agenda.

 

 

 

 

            On his behalf, Mr. Abdelaziz Dahman president of Federation of Textile in Tunisia , extended an open invita¬tion for other Arab countries , especially Algeria and Syria , to join Agadir agreement. Accord¬ing to Dahman , this step boosts the economic cooperation among Agadir members and EU . He stressed also that the Tunisian success depends on high quality and quick response rather than cheaper prices.

 

 

 

 

TEXTECH MED 2010

 

 

 

 

            TEXTECH MED is an initiative co-financed by the Invest in Med Program with the objective of enabling partnerships among Euro-Mediterranean companies seeking producing technical textiles. The event is unique in the sense of bringing together the major partners of the textile cluster. It addresses manufacturers, support organizations, technical centers, R&D institutions and dealers.

 

 

 

 

            TEXTECH MED made its first appearance through conducting a pre-study about the technical textile sector in the Med-region with the aim of positioning related clusters and companies within the region, their needs, opportunities and future expectations. As stated by the events’ organizers,  TEXTECH Med enabled the definition of mutualised support measures and services for Euro Med companies concentrated on the following axis :

 

 

 

 

•Access to prototyping and national/international certification services.

 

 

 

 

•Access to business support services: internationalization, business development, positioning studies, strategy support, partnership making, etc

 

•Initial and professional training: technical textile modules integrated in initial training programs, awareness for tradi-tional SMEs about technical textile opportunities, specialized professional training for SMES and corporate groups, etc.

Hamam : Booth for Innovators

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

            Mr. Abdel Latif Hamam, president of Export Center, highlighted the contributions to TexMed 2010. Among these contributions is a booth for young innovators who are willing to intro¬duce their latest achievements before business community. Commenting on the influence of the global financial crisis on this round of TexMed , Hamam clarifies that the textile sector began to recover in 2010 . This recovery is presented positively in the increasing number of exhibitors to reach 280 companies; includ¬ing 88 foreign companies. 

 

 

 

 

Best Exhibitor Prize Goes to La Griffe

 

 

 

 

            Salaheddine Ktari , president and general manager of the Tunisian La Griffe company and recipient of the best exhibitor prize in TexMed 2010 , expresses a twenty-year expe¬rience in producing tickets and labels since 1990. During these  years, Ktari points out that new technology enabled him to produce labels with components like textiles, leather and plastics. Production is processed in compliance with quality and environment high standards requirements. last June , we received a certificate of safety and vocational health production “ he adds. The production is export oriented with 90 % percent exported through representation offices in Jordan, Egypt, Romania, Morocco , Portugal and Paris.
